Our Story

How it all started...

Rockaway Community church is the oldest church in Rockaway Beach. The congregation existed in Rockaway before there was even a church building. Anna Boldrick had inaugurated Sunday services in 1910 around a bonfire on the beach. Anna and her husband John were some of Rockaway’s first tourists. They later became some of the first settlers. They became permanent residents of Rockaway Beach when they built their second home in 1911.
The Rockaway Beach Development Company, which platted the original town, donated land for the church to be built. They also contributed $150 toward the church building fund. The land was dedicated in 1913, and the building completed in 1914. The original building was located on S. 3rd and is still in use by the Rockaway Lions Club today.
The congregation outgrew the original building by 1968. A new and larger church was built further up S. 3rd Street in 1974 on donated land and is currently where the church is located today.
In 1967, Pastor Day and Mrs. Ashley Day came to provide pastoral leadership to the Rockaway Community Church. Under their guidance, the church partnered with Village Missions and remained partners for many years.
In 2018, the church became independent from Village Missions and brought on Sean McRae as the pastor and teaching elder where he currently serves.
The church building has been used in many ways over the years. It has been used as a community center for all of Rockaway, the Booster Club, and as a headquarters for the Red Cross During World War I.

Growing through fellowship

We believe one of the primary means of spiritual maturity comes through authentic fellowship in the corporate gathering. We worship together, listen to God's word preached together, and we share meals together. When we choose to do life together as a church family, God changes us into the likeness of His Son.

Where we are headed...

We desire to see our local community transformed as individuals come to know Jesus Christ through His saving Gospel. The Gospel is: His death on the cross for our sins taking the punishment we deserve. He was buried. Then on the third day, He was raised from the dead in victory. When this saving message is believed, people are transformed from the inside out. Their new life begins with water baptism and then the life-long process of learning to obey Jesus our great King.
